Week 5: When Jesus Descended to the Dead Part 2: Where You Go Now and What’s Still Coming

KEY TERMS

PARADISE – "Wherever Jesus is." Used three times in the NT for three different locations (Abraham's bosom, heaven, New Creation)

THE INTERMEDIATE STATE – The period between death and resurrection when believers are consciously with Christ in heaven (without resurrection bodies yet)

RESURRECTION BODY – The glorified, imperishable physical body believers will receive when Christ returns (1 Cor 15)

THE NEW CREATION – The renewed heaven and earth where resurrected believers will live physically with God forever (Rev 21-22)

GEHENNA / LAKE OF FIRE / HELL – The final place of eternal judgment, prepared for the devil and his angels (Mt 25:41)

SOUL SLEEP – The false belief that the dead are unconscious until the resurrection. The Bible teaches believers are immediately conscious with Christ (2 Cor 5:8)
