My Weird Bible | Week 10 | Brent Cunningham

Series: WNC

March 25, 2026 | Brent Cunningham

Wednesday night community is back! Join us for My Weird Bible, 11 weeks on the passages that finally make sense.

My Weird Bible will explore some of the strangest, most confusing, and often misunderstood passages in Scripture. By digging into the historical, cultural, and biblical context behind these stories, the series helps make sense of what can feel weird or unsettling—and shows how even the most unusual parts of the Bible reveal God’s character and invite us into deeper faith.

Follow Along with the Message

Covenant — A binding agreement sealed by blood in the ancient world. More than a modern contract — it established family-level obligation and identity between the parties.

Circumcision (Hebrew) — The complete removal of the foreskin, given to Abraham in Genesis 17 as the physical sign of covenant membership. Not merely religious — it was the mark of belonging to Yahweh and His people.

Circumcision (Egyptian) —  Unlike Hebrew circumcision, the Egyptian version only split the foreskin rather than removing it. Growing up in Pharaoh's house likely meant Moses either received this incomplete procedure or was never circumcised at all.

Proxy — Acting on behalf of another. Zipporah circumcises Gershom and then physically applies the severed foreskin to Moses, extending the covenant effect of the rite to him. In doing so, she functions in a priestly role — performing a sacred ritual act that mediates between Moses and God, and ultimately saves Moses' life.

Bridegroom of Blood — An ancient Hebrew pre-marital formula declaring that a man is now covenant-marked and eligible for marriage within God's people.
