Timberline Church | Devoted to Prayer | Donny Abbott

Series: Devoted

October 18, 2026 | Donny Abbott

Prayer is one of the most powerful ways we connect with God, yet it can also be one of the most misunderstood and neglected practices of our faith. As we conclude our Devoted series, we turn to the example of the early church and their commitment to prayer. More than simply asking God for what we need, prayer is an invitation into a deeper relationship with Him—a practice of dependence, gratitude, surrender, and trust. Whether we're facing overwhelming challenges or celebrating life's blessings, prayer reminds us that we don't have to navigate life in our own strength. We can approach a loving Father who knows our struggles, understands our needs, and welcomes us into His presence.

When Jesus' disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray, He gave them a simple but profound model for connecting with God. Through the Lord's Prayer in Luke 11, we discover what it means to approach God with both intimacy and reverence, honor Him for who He is, trust Him for our daily needs, and seek His forgiveness and guidance. Jesus also encourages us to pray with boldness and persistence, confident in the goodness of our Heavenly Father. Prayer isn't about finding the perfect words or convincing God to care—it's about growing closer to the One who already loves us beyond measure and invites us to bring every part of our lives before Him.
