A Heart of Generosity

Read

2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Matthew 6:19-21

Pray

Lord, give me a heart of generosity. You remind me that the more seeds I sow, the more fruit will be produced. I know that applies to many areas you have called me to: financial giving, serving others, sharing the gospel, showing love and compassion to your children.

Particularly in terms of financial giving, help me to make a commitment to give through the church, to organizations you call me to give, and to individuals who need help. Help me to follow-through with those commitments. Transform my heart so my gifts are generous and cheerful, not reluctant or out of compulsion or guilt.

Please continue to bless me abundantly so that I have all I need and can do your good works by passing on those blessings to others, using your gifts to honor you and advance your kingdom. You are the one who has given me all that I have. Help me to remember that it all still belongs to you and I am only a steward of your gifts. Show me how to use the resources you give me so the most amount of fruit may be produced. Let me not hoard these resources as treasures for myself, but let me invest these resources in others so that you may be glorified and my heart will be drawn to you and your ways, not the ways of the world.

Fulfill your promise to enrich my life in every way, and I will promise to be generous on every occasion and give you the thanks for any good that is accomplished.

God, multiply my generosity and the generosity of others so that the needs of your people will be met. There are hungry children in my community. There are parents desperately seeking to take care of their families. There are people living on the streets. Please direct your compassion to these people and provide for them. Let these people receive all that they need and acknowledge it has come from you. May they see your generous and merciful nature and also accept your gift of grace and receive eternal life.

Help me to be obedient by generously giving financially, serving others, sharing your gospel, and loving others. Let my obedience turn into salvation for others and glory for you. It is only by your surpassing grace that these things can be accomplished. Thank you for the indescribable gift of grace that makes all the difference. Amen.

Listen, Reflect & Journal

As you go into your weekend, I challenge you to do something that's not regularly on your to-do list or calendar that's intentionally generous with your time, treasures or talents.
