Keep Me From Temptation

Read

1 Corinthians 10: 1-13

Pray

Father, thank you for the mercy that you have offered to all who acknowledge their sin and look to you as the only freedom from that sin. I am grateful that because of the death of your son on the cross, my sins can be forgiven, my heart can be purified, and I can be restored to the righteousness that allows me to be in your presence. I never want to be separated from you.

Lord, let me learn from the example of the Israelites in the dessert who saw your great works and felt your compassion as they were saved from Egypt, yet, returned to a life of sin. Let me not set my heart on evil things as they did.

Forgive me for the idol I have made of myself, seeking pleasures to serve myself. Forgive me for wanting money, material things, and positive attention from others more than desiring a relationship with you.

Forgive the thoughts that cross my mind that I would be embarrassed to share with others. Forgive the images I allow into my mind that take my mind off the good and pure thoughts that should consume me.

Forgive me for my grumbles when I am inconvenienced or wronged and believe I should have the right to something better.

Give me your strength and your power to help me stand firm against the temptation to engage in these and other sins. I believe that because you have overcome this world, your spirit within me can help me overcome temptation. You are faithful. I trust you to not let me be tempted beyond what I can bear. Provide a way out for me so that I can resist whatever temptation I face.

In your name, Jesus, amen.
