WHY DO CHURCHES HAVE easter sunrise services?

For those who love Jesus, Easter Day is a global celebration. And many will gather to worship as the sun comes up - but why so early? A practice that goes back to the 17th century, the sunrise service is a reminder that those first friends of Jesus encountered Him at daybreak. When life returned again to a borrowed tomb - Jesus only needed it for three days. As the shadows yielded to the dawn, so a new era of life and hope was birthed. Sunrise service offers a unique atmosphere of joy and peace, as people gather to worship and praise. He is risen – let’s celebrate!

what's so "good" about good Friday?

Easter is when followers of Jesus celebrate his resurrection and defeat of death. Two days before, however, we remember and reflect on the crucifixion of our Lord. So, how can we in any way call that day “good”? The Apostle Paul reminds us that it was through the cross of Christ that God was “canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands . . . nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-15). Through the greatest evil ever perpetrated (the murder of God), was brought about the greatest good (the opening of eternity to us). Thus, it truly was Good Friday.

"But the angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.'"

Matthew 28:5-6
