The content below is intended to provide a variety of helpful resources on difficult yet relevant subjects, in this case, contentment. We recognize that some sources may come into question for any number of reasons, and the following are not offered with a blanket endorsement of every word spoken or written. We believe God uses imperfect people every day, and the following are just as fallible as anyone — yet if they may be helpful, we want to share them with you.

Overview

Contentment can be described as a peaceful state of being that goes beyond our circumstances.

The apostle Paul suggests that contentment can be learned. In his letter to the church in Philippi, he says, “…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:11-13)

Contentment is a practice, a discipline revolving around where we chose to find joy. May we excel at exercising contentment as we draw on the strength of Jesus — regardless of circumstances.
