Child dedication is a great way for us as a church to celebrate this important spiritual marker in the life of a child and the life of a family. As a family, you will be standing before your church acknowledging your faith, and depending on God in raising your child. As the parent, you are also acknowledging the authority of the church and God’s Holy Scriptures to be spoken into your lives.
Understand that dedication is more than just a cute ceremony but also a relationship that you and your family are entering into the parents with the church, the parent with God, the parent with your child, the Church with the parent, the Church with the Child, the Church with God.
We know that what happens in the early years of a child’s life sets them on a path in life. As parents, our time for influencing our children is short, but what we do during that time has eternal consequences. We are excited that you have chosen to take this first spiritual step with your child.
What We Believe
All children are a blessing from God.
All people have a purpose
Parents are the spiritual leaders of their family
Why We Don't Baptize Babies
We recognize with a church the size of Timberline that people from various faith backgrounds will choose to call Timberline their home. We also understand that people from other church backgrounds practice infant baptism. As much as that was a wonderful experience for the family, we haven’t found a Biblical basis for this practice. We believe that a person must recognize their position as a fallen person separated from God. In doing so a person must also choose to ask God to forgive them of their sins and to “confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead” Romans 10:9. Upon doing that a person can then publicly proclaim their faith in Christ through Baptism.
