As we wrap up a year of looking at God’s promises, it’s a good time to summarize the major themes of these promises. Jack Countryman’s "God’s Promises Every Day" summarizes many promises nicely. I highly recommend his book and believe it would make a great gift at Christmas or any time of the year.
We have learned that God has a reputation of keeping His promises: Psalm 145:13a: The Lord always keeps His promises. Joshua 22:14b: Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.
When we get weary and weak physically, spiritually, and emotionally: Isaiah 40:29a: He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. God promises rest: Matthew 11:28: Come to me when you are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
When we need wisdom: James 1:5: If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. God will not judge you by asking for wisdom.
When we are overwhelmed with evil thoughts or circumstances: James 4:7: Submit yourself to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. God has already overcome evil.
When we need forgiveness: 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
We are sealed with His spirit, and our future is guaranteed: 2 Corinthians 1:22: (He) set his seal of ownership on us and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come.
Christ is the fulfillment of all of God’s Promises: 2 Corinthians 1:20a: For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ, and “Amen” is spoken, by us to the glory of God.
God listens to us: Psalm 116: 1a: I love the Lord, for He heard my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! This verse also speaks about the relationship God wants with us. Why else would he “bend down to listen?"
God Saves and protects us: Psalm 116: 6: The Lord protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me. God delivers us: v. 8a O Lord, You have delivered my soul from death. God sets us free: v. 16: O Lord, truly I am Your servant…You have freed me from my chains.
These are great verses to memorize! Mark them in your Bible with “PTC” (Promise to Claim), so they will be on our lips and in our minds. The memory of them will help us to remember to call on God’s promises first when we need them.
And always remember Proverbs 30:5: "Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him." Make sure you are putting your trust in the right place. God’s promises are available to all but you must recognize Christ as your Savior to call upon them and receive them.
Merry Christmas Timberline Women (and families)!
