Café and Bookstore Manager

Job Title: Café and Bookstore Manager
Reports To: Facilities and Events Manager
Direct Reports: Assistant Manager and Volunteer Baristas
Effective Date: March 2021

The Café and Bookstore Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the Timberline Café and Bookstore.  In addition, this person acts as Volunteer Coordinator for the Timberline Café and Bookstore.


Duties & Responsibilities

The following list of duties and responsibilities is intended to serve as a guide to what is expected of the Café and Bookstore Manager.

As Manager

    • Oversee all employees and volunteers.
    • Write weekly schedule for employees and volunteers and deal with any scheduling conflicts.  Be on call to fill in as needed.
    • Set standards for cleaning, stocking, presentation and customer service.
    • Process daily deposits, tips, and departmental funds transfers.
    • Take inventory, place orders, and process invoices.
    • Develop marketing for both stores. Determine which items should be discontinued, handle returns, and introduce new products.
    • Handle problematic customers or vendors. 
    • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new vendors.
    • Reconcile credit card statements each month.
    • Conduct staff and volunteer meetings/trainings as needed.
    • Abide by the Timberline Church Ministry Covenant 

As Volunteer Coordinator

    • Recruit new volunteers for each ministry as needed. Interview and place volunteers.
    • Write and maintain ministry descriptions.
    • Ensure all volunteers are trained.
    • Provide on-going support and encouragement for volunteers.
    • Manage volunteers in church database and keep information current.
    • Determine and develop new ways for the Café to serve as a ministry outreach.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with Missions organizations that the Café supports.
    • Communicate annual goals and progress to volunteers. Ensure they feel a connection to the mission of the Café and encourage feedback and ideas for future partnerships.
    • Abide by the Timberline Church Ministry Covenant

This is a full-time position.
